about

The Cellist of Sarajevo was originally written in 2009. The song itself is directly inspired by Canadian author Steve Galloway's novel of the same title. Shayne and Michael first bonded over the original recording of this song, years before the days of Light Company.

lyrics

Though the rain falls on our heads
At least we see the stars
Through the cracks we'll point our eyes
To see how small we are

Though they've pried open our mouths
and taken out our tongues
Our hearts will never fail to tell
Our stories to our young

Our hearts beat on

Though these shadows stretch beyond
The limits of our reach
Both you and I will hide below
The cover of the trees

Though they've taken all we know
And set it all aflame
Our hearts will burn with endless pride
We'll never forget our names

Our hearts beat on
